OCI Link (within 90 days)
Also called: OCI passport link, OCI update with new passport
OCI Link is the online update that attaches a new passport to an existing OCI record when only the passport number has changed. It applies within about 90 days of the new passport's issue date, with the same name and a valid OCI card, and is completed online with no visa centre visit. The OCI itself is not renewed and no new booklet is issued.
Who needs it
OCI holders who have renewed or replaced their foreign passport, for example a renewed British passport, and have nothing else to change. Past 90 days, even a simple passport-number change moves to the OCI Passport Details Update, with a £52.78 late-update penalty payable separately. A name change or a lost card also needs that update instead. Once filed, processing typically takes about 25 to 40 days, and you can usually travel to India while it continues, carrying both passports.
