Citizenship status check before applying
Whether your child is eligible for an Indian passport depends on the parents' citizenship at the time of birth. The following situations need careful checking before applying:
- One parent is British by birth and one parent is Indian — Indian citizenship for the child is subject to additional rules.
- One or both parents acquired British citizenship before the child's birth.
- Child born outside the UK and India (e.g. in the EU) — different rules apply.
- Birth not yet registered with the Indian mission — this often needs to be completed first.

Newborns born in the UK
Babies born in the UK to Indian parents are eligible for an Indian passport. Registration of birth (Indian consular registration) may be required first, depending on the date of birth.
Minors under 18
Children under 18 holding Indian citizenship can renew or apply for first-time issue. Parental consent and documentation are required.
Re-issue after passport expiry
Short-validity passports issued in childhood need re-issue more often. We handle re-issue applications for minors and confirm the next validity period.

These VFS / government fees are indicative, and the delivery envelope is already included in them — your document is returned to your address at no extra charge. Your final amount may be higher if VFS charges for optional extras on the day, such as photocopying, document printing, a photo, or SMS updates. The exact total is confirmed by VFS Global at submission.

Common questions
Can my UK-born child have an Indian passport?
Generally yes, if both parents (or sole parent) hold Indian citizenship at the time of birth. We confirm eligibility based on the parents' citizenship history before you pay.
Does the birth need to be registered with the Indian mission?
Often, yes. The Citizenship Act and rules require birth registration of children born abroad to Indian parents within specified time limits. We confirm whether registration is needed in your case.
Do both parents need to attend VFS?
Both parents normally attend with the child. If one cannot attend, an explicit consent form (and sometimes notarised affidavit) is required.
How long is a minor's passport valid?
Validity for minors is shorter than for adults and varies by age. We confirm the expected validity for your child's age band at the time of application.
What is your fee?
Our service fee is shared on WhatsApp after the eligibility check. VFS and Indian government fees are paid separately at submission.
