The 90-day window — link promptly, not on the deadline
Link your OCI as soon as the new passport arrives — ideally within about 90 days of its issue date. Do not wait for the deadline: the OCI department's rejection emails can arrive late. OCI Link covers a passport change whether you are within the 90-day window or past it. Within the window the whole update is done online, with no appointment needed. If your passport was issued more than 90 days ago, OCI Link still applies (£100) but is completed through a VFS appointment — we book it and you attend VFS in person — with £52.78 payable at VFS (£20 Government of India fee + £3 ICWF + £29.78 VFS service fee). The following cases go to the online OCI Passport Details Update instead, not linking:
- First new passport after turning 20 (when OCI was originally issued below age 20) — a one-time OCI re-issue applies; we confirm the exact route and cost for your case before you pay.
- Name change (marriage, last name), nationality change, lost or damaged OCI, facial appearance change, ex-spouse name removal, or address change on OCI — all handled online via the OCI Passport Details Update (£125, e-OCI included).
- Wrong details on your OCI (such as date of birth or citizenship) — handled online via the OCI Passport Details Update; we confirm the exact requirement for your case before you pay.

Who needs OCI Link with a new passport
British passport renewed
Your British passport has been renewed and the passport number has changed. This is the most common case — link your existing OCI to your new British passport.
Replacement British passport
Your British passport was lost, stolen, or damaged and replaced. The new passport has a different number, so your OCI needs to be linked again.
Spouse-based OCI holder
If your OCI was granted on your spouse's eligibility, your foreign passport renewal generally needs an OCI link in the same way as other OCI holders.
Lost old passport
If the old passport linked to your OCI is lost, linking can often still be done. We confirm the exact requirements — a police report may be needed.

What VFS collects on the day
Applies only when the passport is past the roughly 90-day window — payable directly to VFS Global at the appointment. Within the window, OCI Link is completed online with no VFS visit and nothing payable at VFS.

These VFS / government fees are indicative, and the delivery envelope is already included in them — your document is returned to your address at no extra charge. Your final amount may be higher if VFS charges for optional extras on the day, such as photocopying, document printing, a photo, or SMS updates. The exact total is confirmed by VFS Global at submission.
These figures are illustrative and based on the current VFS schedule (including applicable taxes). Current fees apply on the day of submission and are paid directly to VFS Global — separately from the Matrix service fee.

What is the 90-day rule?
OCI cardholders should link their new foreign passport to their OCI within about 90 days of the new passport's issue date. Important: link as soon as the passport arrives — do not wait, because the OCI department's rejection emails can be slow. Within the window the whole update is done online, with no appointment. If you are past 90 days, it is not a dead end — this is still an OCI Link (£100), but it is completed through a VFS appointment we book, with £52.78 payable in person at VFS (£20 Government of India fee + £3 ICWF + £29.78 VFS service fee).
Do I need to link my OCI every time I get a new passport?
Yes. Whenever your foreign passport number changes, your OCI should be updated within 90 days. The correct service depends on your age and whether anything else has changed. OCI Link applies in straightforward renewal cases for adults 20 and over (including over 50) within the 90-day window.
I am over 20 and have a new British passport — which service do I need?
If your OCI was first issued when you were 20 or older, only your passport has changed (no name change), and you are within about 90 days, OCI Link is usually correct. If your OCI was originally issued before age 20 and you are now 20 or above, a one-time OCI re-issue applies instead — WhatsApp us and we confirm the exact route and cost before you pay.
I'm over 50 with a new passport — do I need a new OCI booklet?
No. Turning 50 does NOT require a new OCI booklet under current rules. Online passport update/linking is generally sufficient — apply via OCI Link (£100). The 90-day window still applies, so complete the update within 90 days of receiving the new passport.
How long does OCI passport linking take from the UK?
We upload your documents within 24 to 48 hours of receiving them. The Indian High Commission then typically processes the update in about 25 to 40 days. You can usually travel to India while processing continues — carry both passports and our confirmation.
