Renewal versus reissue
Some cases that look like renewal are actually reissue, with different requirements:
- Damaged passport.
- Lost or stolen passport — a police report and additional declarations are required.
- Name or date-of-birth change.
- More than three years past expiry — additional documentation may apply.

Who can apply
Indian passport expiring or expired
Most renewals can be applied for up to one year before expiry. Expired passports are also accepted — we confirm whether additional declarations are needed.
Damaged passport
Damaged passports usually need reissue rather than renewal. We confirm the correct route on WhatsApp.
Change of name, address, or appearance
Reissue is required if your name has changed (e.g. marriage), or if your appearance differs significantly from the existing photo. Supporting documents will be needed.
Children under 18

What does Tatkal priority include?
Your file is submitted under the Tatkal (priority) route, your VFS appointment booking is prioritised (subject to availability), and a dedicated team member handles your case. We aim to prepare your file within 4 working hours of receiving your documents.
Does the £50 include the government Tatkal fee?
No. The £50 is the Matrix Solutions service fee for priority handling, on top of our £125 renewal fee — £175 in total per applicant. The government Tatkal passport fee is separate: it is listed in the VFS fee table on this page and paid to VFS Global at your appointment.
What does “within 4 working hours” mean?
It is our aim for preparing your file, counted from when we receive your complete documents, during UK office hours (Mon–Sat, 08:30–19:00). If a document is missing or needs correcting, the time counts from when everything is with us.
Does Tatkal priority mean a faster VFS appointment?
We prioritise booking the earliest suitable appointment at your VFS centre, subject to availability. VFS controls appointment slots, so we cannot promise a specific date.
Does Tatkal priority change how long the passport takes?
Tatkal applications are usually processed faster than normal ones, but passport processing and dispatch timelines sit with the Indian authorities and VFS. Tatkal priority is about our part: we aim to prepare your file within 4 working hours of receiving your documents, and we prioritise your appointment booking, subject to availability.
Is Tatkal priority charged per applicant?
Yes — each passport is a separate Tatkal application, so the £50 applies per applicant. For two applicants, our fee with Tatkal priority is £350 (2 × £175). Government Tatkal fees are paid separately for each applicant at VFS.

Send your current Indian passport, UK visa (BRP or eVisa), and address proof on WhatsApp. We confirm whether you need normal or Tatkal service and the documents required.

What documents are required for Indian passport renewal in the UK?
Generally your current Indian passport, proof of UK status such as your BRP or eVisa, proof of address, and a 35×45mm photograph with a plain background. After your VFS appointment, authority processing is about 3 to 4 weeks on the normal route and about 1 to 2 weeks on Tatkal, subject to VFS workload. We confirm the expected timeline for your case once your documents are reviewed.
Can I renew online from the UK?
Partly. The Indian passport renewal application is completed online, and we fill it in for you, but document submission and biometrics happen in person at a VFS appointment, so the process cannot be finished entirely online. You attend once with a prepared file, and we track the application until your new passport is dispatched.
Do I need a VFS appointment?
Yes, in most cases: the VFS appointment is where you submit documents and give biometrics. We book it at the VFS centre covering your postcode, subject to availability, because booking in the wrong jurisdiction is a common mistake.
