Indian passport fee calculator 2026

Renewing an Indian passport from the UK comes with a fee paid to VFS Global at your appointment. The amount depends on four things: the normal or Tatkal route, the applicant's age, the number of pages, and whether the passport is lost or damaged. This free calculator adds up the government and VFS fee for your household in seconds. Choose your route, set the number of applicants and pick a passport size, and the total updates as you go. There is no signup and nothing to download.

Below the government fee you will see our service fee, which is separate: £125 per adult, or £175 with Tatkal priority. Figures come from our VFS fee table for 2026, and the fee on the day of submission applies. VFS Global and the Government of India set these fees, not us, so use this page as a guide and confirm your total before you pay.

How the fee is made up in 2026

The amount you pay at VFS has three parts: the Government of India booklet fee, a £2 Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) contribution and the £29.78 VFS service fee. The last two stay the same across the table, so only the booklet fee moves. A normal adult passport with 36 pages has a £93 booklet fee, which makes £124.78 in total. These amounts go directly to VFS Global at your appointment, separately from any fee you pay us.

Normal or Tatkal?

On the normal route, processing usually takes about 3 to 4 weeks. On Tatkal it is about 1 to 2 weeks, subject to VFS workload. Tatkal adds £92 to the booklet fee, so it makes sense when a travel date needs it. Picking the wrong route is a common mistake, and we confirm which one fits during your free case check.

Our Tatkal priority is a separate add-on. It adds £50 to our fee and covers filing under the Tatkal route, priority appointment booking, subject to availability, and a dedicated team member. The government Tatkal fee stays separate and is paid at your appointment.

36 or 60 pages

A 60-page passport adds £37 to the booklet fee for adults and minors aged 15 to 18. Minors under 15 receive a 5-year passport, and the fee table has no page choice for them, so the calculator hides this question when only under-15s are selected.

Adults and minors

Adults and minors aged 15 to 18 receive a 10-year passport. Minors have a separate process with additional parental documents, so we quote a minor's passport before you pay. A first passport for a UK-born child goes through our newborn and minor passport service (£200), which includes consular birth registration and has its own fee table.

Lost or damaged passports

A lost or damaged passport is a reissue rather than a renewal. The fee table has one rate for these cases, with no separate Tatkal row. A lost or stolen passport needs a police report and additional declarations. The table has no lost or damaged row for a minor aged 15 to 18, so the calculator shows “per current VFS/HCI rate” instead of a number. Send us a photo of your passport on WhatsApp and we confirm the right route before you pay.

Is a renewal the right route?

Most renewals can be applied for up to one year before expiry, and expired passports are also accepted. A passport more than three years past expiry may need additional documents. A name or date of birth change is a reissue. After acquiring British citizenship, an Indian passport is generally surrendered rather than renewed, which is a different application. See surrender of Indian passport.

What the calculator leaves out

  • Optional VFS extras on the day, such as photocopying, document printing, a photo or SMS updates. The delivery envelope is already included in the fee.
  • Your photo. An Indian passport photo is 35 × 45 mm with a plain background. Our photo size checker covers the shape.

What Matrix Solutions adds

Our £125 per adult covers document review, the online application, photo and signature formatting, booking your VFS appointment and WhatsApp support through to delivery. You attend VFS once with a prepared file. With Tatkal priority our fee is £175 per applicant. See Indian passport renewal for the full service. Passport decisions and processing times sit with the Indian authorities and VFS.

We book the VFS centre that covers your postcode, because booking in the wrong jurisdiction is a common mistake. Each passport is a separate application, so fees apply per applicant. Two adults with Tatkal priority pay us £350, plus the government Tatkal fee for each passport at VFS.
